Books-a-plenty in Palmerston North

The Palmerston North Book Sale is one of the biggest community fundraiser for New Zealand Red Cross. Every year, for more than 30 years, the community gets together each King’s Birthday Weekend to fill three halls with books, jigsaws, DVDs and CDs.

A constant stream of volunteers is needed to fill the gaps where vulnerable people fall between business and government. In the past couple of years, I’ve seen a surge of young people — those under the age of 30 — wanting to be actively involved with causes close to their hearts.

Relaunching the international humanitarian law collection at Napier Library

On 8 May 2024, Napier Library re-launched their international humanitarian law collection. First opened in 2006 by then New Zealand Red Cross National President Jocelyn Lady Keith CBE, the collection is once again available to the public after the library refurbished their buildings. The following is the speech delivered at the relaunch event by our current National President Kerry Nickels.
