Annual Day of Remembrance 2024
20 March 2024
On 19 March 2024, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) held its annual Day of Remembrance. Each year we honour and pay tribute to our colleagues who have lost their lives or who have been seriously injured while performing their humanitarian duties.
We remember their dedication to the Movement and ICRC's humanitarian mission, as well as who they were as individuals, friends, and loved ones.
ICRC annual Day of Remembrance event
New Zealand Red Cross Secretary General, Sarah (Norm) Stuart-Black, and National President, Kerry Nickels, were invited to attend the 2024 virtual ceremony hosted by ICRC in Geneva which took place in the early hours of 20 March, New Zealand time.
They were invited to remember New Zealand Red Cross delegates who were killed overseas. At the request of family members, those we have lost will not be named publicly, but they remain in our thoughts and as part of the very heart of New Zealand Red Cross.
This tribute is part of a wider ICRC institutional effort to honour the memory of our deceased colleagues.
ICRC has a memorial website, We Remember, where you can learn more about the people this day commemorates.
