A devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake has struck Vanuatu. The damage to people’s lives and livelihoods is immense and urgent help is needed. Your donation can make a life-changing difference both immediately and on the road to recovery – donate now.

On Tuesday, 17 December, Vanuatu was struck by a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake, followed by strong aftershocks, causing widespread devastation. Thousands of people have been affected, with an estimated 51,000 people residing in the hardest-hit areas, where vital infrastructure and buildings have been severely damaged.

Sadly, lives have been lost, and many others are injured. Communities are in desperate need of immediate assistance.

Already, with the help of donations from people like you, New Zealand Red Cross has activated communication facilities that we set up earlier this year to help Vanuatu Red Cross teams on the ground communicate and coordinate their response in disasters.

Vanuatu Red Cross has a team of 42 staff and 422 volunteers. Despite suffering damage to their Port Vila building, they are hard at work on the ground, responding to the crisis. Their efforts are crucial in providing urgent relief to those in need.

Your generous donation can help the people affected by the earthquakes in Vanuatu in the aftermath of this devastating disaster. As the situation develops, your help will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to meet people’s needs. This could include distributing relief items and essential supplies and helping recovery efforts. Your support could also help to deploy New Zealand Red Cross International Delegates if they are called upon to provide their expert skills to help teams on the ground deliver vital aid to those in need.
