NZQA Standards:
Comprehensive First Aid also provides training on managing more complex workplace injuries and illnesses, expanding your ability to respond to a broader range of emergencies. Through trauma and medical scenarios, you'll practice administering first aid to multiple people, ensuring you're prepared to handle a variety of emergency situations.
This course has no prerequisite requirements. To keep your first aid certificate valid, you must complete revalidation training with a certified provider every two years.
What this course covers
- Primary assessment.
- Recovery (stable side) position.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – adult, child and infant.
- Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Management of choking – adult, child and infant.
- Life-threatening bleeding and shock.
- Burns.
- Poisoning.
- Fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries.
- Medical emergencies.
- Scene management of emergency situations.
- Hypothermia, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
- Head and spinal injuries.
- Complex medical and trauma injuries.
Booking options
There are different ways to complete this 12-hour first aid course. Either completely face-to-face or with a pre-learning component completed on your phone, tablet or computer:
- Book a Comprehensive First Aid course to complete all training face-to-face over two days.
- Our current Online Comprehensive First Aid course is available for booking until the end of December 2024. Complete pre-course learning online (four hours) and attend a face-to-face course in the classroom (eight hours).
- Available now for bookings in 2025, the Comprehensive First Aid – Hybrid is the new name for our Online Comprehensive First Aid course. The timing is changing to online pre-course learning (six hours) and face-to-face in the classroom (six hours).

Please note, if you work in a high-risk workplace we recommend booking our Comprehensive First Aid course, where you’ll cover more advanced topics such as managing head and spinal injuries.

This First Aid Revalidation course provides hands-on practice and simulations, allowing you to refresh your skills and maintain the confidence to respond effectively in a range of emergency situations.
It is designed for those who need to renew their first aid certification and have previously completed our Comprehensive First Aid course (or equivalent), our Essential First Aid course (or equivalent), or maintained their certification through first aid revalidation training conducted by NZQA accredited providers.
You must hold a current Comprehensive First Aid (6402, 6401, 6400), Essential First Aid Certificate (6402, 6401), First Aid Revalidation or an equivalent certificate from another provider to attend this course. You must bring proof of your existing first aid certificate upon attending a refresher course.
You can attend a revalidation course if your certificate is no older than two years.

- Recovery (stable side) position
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – adult, child and infant
- Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Management of choking – adult, child and infant
- Life-threatening bleeding and shock

- A wide range of complex medical emergencies and trauma injuries – including Head and spinal injuries, hypothermia, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

- Book a First Aid Revalidation course to complete all training face-to-face.

Learn how to assist a collapsed person, manage someone who is unconscious, recognise when CPR is required, and perform CPR on adults, children, and infants.
You'll also discover how to use a defibrillator (AED), respond to choking emergencies, and manage life-threatening bleeding.
This course is an accessible option for anyone interested in building confidence to respond effectively to someone in need of help.
Please note, this course does not award any unit standards. If you need unit standard 6402, we recommend our Save-a-life 2025 course.
For more in-depth first aid training, including a wider range of advanced topics, we recommend our Comprehensive First Aid or Essential First Aid courses.

This course is available for booking until the end of December 2024. It will be superceded by Save a Life 2025 from January 2025, due to the changes in the unit standard requirements.

What this course covers
Participants will:
- Understand what Psychological First Aid is and isn't.
- Become familiar with distress reactions.
- Provide PFA using ‘The Five Elements’ and the action principles:
- Look: Know some of the warning signs.
- Listen: How to check in, listen and respond.
- Link: Connect the person and/or yourself to the right support.
- Practice providing Psychological First Aid.

This course builds confidence and skills required to provide a safe first aid response, and the management of children and infants, the scene and other bystanders, until the arrival of other assistance. Please note this is not recommended for childcare businesses such as kindergartens or schools.
